If one thing is clear in the movement of rise and fall of empires, is that classical heritage dies hard. Crisis or not, the culture of ancient Greece first, and Roman Empire later, had a consistent part in the foundation of Europe. Eerily quiet is the new solo show by Greek artist Mantalina Psoma in Berlin. An atmosphere of eerie quietness is indeed something that distinguishes the paintings of the Berlin-based artist, spanning from 2010 to 2013. Influenced by a group of painters including Hockney and Vermeer, Psoma treats her subjects in such a way that her canvases resemble cinematic photographs. read more.

South likes: Invernomuto at ar/ge kunst, Bolzano

Formed by Simone Bertuzzi and Simone Trabucchi in 2003, the artist duo Invernomuto presents a solo show named I-Ration after the English-Jamaican term meaning "creation". The show continues the project Negus, which was initiated in 2011, and considers Rastafarian culture for its power "to focalize and even mediate certain socio-cultural tensions that have developed on a global scale", as claimed by scholar Carole Yawney.  read more.

The film giving the title to the show, Towards the Possible Film, has been shot at Legzira beach in Sidi Ifni, Morocco, a territory where many wars have been fought, between Spain, Morocco, and the independent Saharan tribes. In this liminal territory, which is strongly characterised by the coexistence of different cultures, Shezad Dawood staged his filmic narration elaborating on the human response to episodes of confrontation, exploration and invasion. read more.
