Public Secrets
Kunst Halle, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland
1 February – 13 April, 2014
Marinella Senatore’s work is based on the use of social processes as a medium. She initiates prodigious collaborative projects, recruiting thousands of people, who are assigned to various roles, corresponding to the work each has to carry out. The crucial part of her practice are the relationships evolving through the temporary community established during the development of the project. The exhibition preserves the situations created in these collaborations, giving to the viewer the chance to comprehend these processes himself. A film is broken down to fragments and linked to the procedure of its making in an archival form, while an opera play is recreated in a vibrant video installation. The narrative emanating from the evidence of these communal experiences, is enriched by the visitor himself. Like in Senatore’ s latest endeavor, Estman Radio, where the artist invites the viewers to contribute with the recording a podcast. Completed by an installation based on the activity of the School of Narrative Dance’ s—a free school founded by the artist herself—Public Secrets engages with the vigorous transfer of past processes, while being an active platform for the initiation of fresh social circumstances.
