South likes: Philippe Parreno at Palais de Tokyo, Paris

For the very first time, a major figure of the international art scene, Philippe Parreno, was entrusted with carte blanche to use the entire space of Palais de Tokyo (22.000 m3). Parreno, certainly one of the leading characters of a generation that in the 1990s exploited the diversity of media to change our perception of art, explored and redefined the exhibition space as a film set, taking it as a medium and orchestrating a visual choreography that lasts at least two hours. read more.

South likes: Pierre Huyghe at Centre Pompidou, Paris

One year after Pierre Huyghe's “mystical biotope” of Documenta XIII, his first major retrospective is presented in the South gallery of Pompidou, featuring around 50 works and covering more than two decades of the artist's activity. The walls and the banners of the previous exhibition, dedicated to Mikey Kelly, are still there, manifesting Huyghe's decision to use the existent material and take over the space as it was, in order to a “live situation” rather than an exhibition. read more.

South likes: Afresh at EMST, Athens

When entering the late modernist temporary venue of EMST, the viewer can easily be taken by surprise by the all domestic feast of the up-to-date. South likes: 4th Athens Biennale, AGORA, Athens

Even after a couple of weeks since the closing of Agora, the 4th Athens Biennale, we, Athenians at least, are still missing this hubbub of encounters and events. The main Biennale venue, the downtown monumental building that formerly hosted the Athens Stock Exchange, fitted just right for the title, Agora, originally meaning a place of encounter and exchange. read more.
