Urs Fischer creates a space halfway between the aftermath of a catastrophe and a surrealist dreamscape. In the midst of a psychedelic rain, the viewer comes across an accumulation of clay Freudian couches, occupied by what could be described as decapitated versions of Manet’s Olympia. In what appears to be a still moment in time, the artist allows us to leave reality behind—the countless raindrops invert the notions of outside and inside, giving this show the essence of a dream within a dream. The coloured water drops, endlessly reproduced throughout the space, function as commentary to the notion of authenticity while forming an infinite imagery and inviting the viewer to wander and examine the sculptures. The stillness of the space gradually turns into a vibrant experience, while all symbolism dissolves in the daydream atmosphere: an unexpected space for the recollection of the visitor’s intriguing thoughts and memories.
